Sustainability commitment and roadmap

We are working toward a more sustainable future by reducing environmental impact and developing aramids using recycled and bio-based carbon sources. Collaboration plays a central role in this effort. We work closely with suppliers, partners, and customers to support progress across the value chain.

“We are transitioning from fossil-based to more sustainable raw materials, working closely with our supply chain to support this shift – it’s a journey we’ll navigate together.”

Remko Bakker, Global Procurement & Supply Chain Director

Our sustainability roadmap impacts our entire value chain by:

  • Lowering environmental emissions early in the production process
  • Reducing CO₂ emissions during the use phase of our products
  • Working with partners across the value chain to develop economically viable circular solutions. Focus on the full product lifecycle, with particular attention to design for recycling.
  • Expanding the use of sustainable raw materials and scaling up recycling technologies

We are taking steps to transition to circular products and renewable energy well ahead of our 2050 target. As part of this effort, we are improving production efficiency, increasing the use of renewable inputs, and strengthening our material flow management. We aim to deliver on our promise to introduce our first sustainable products in 2025. To prepare for this introduction, we have laid the groundwork for our ISCC PLUS certification* which we aim to complete in early 2025.

*ISCC PLUS is a certification system that ensures sustainability, traceability, and environmental responsibility in supply chains. It covers bio-based, renewable, and circular raw materials, helping organizations demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.

Building on our progress: Priorities for 2025 and beyond

As we enter FY2025, we remain focused on advancing sustainability and building further upon our leading position in circular aramid production. Key areas of focus include:

Product innovation

Translate customer needs into new, more sustainable para- and meta-aramid products, with the first introductions planned for 2025. At the same time, support value chain partners by applying our expertise to enable design for recycling and promote circular use.

Resource efficiency

Improve the efficiency of raw materials and energy across operations to reduce environmental impact, while working with partners to support the transition from fossil-based inputs to more sustainable alternatives.

Community engagement

Share expert knowledge on Life Cycle Assessment, regulations, and Digital Product Passports. We help bring sustainability topics into customer conversations and communicate our goals and progress across the value chain.

Henrico Derks

Director Sustainability

“In 2020, we set a clear target: to bring our first sustainable products to market by 2025. Now is the time to deliver on that commitment. Collaboration across the value chain is essential as we build and share the knowledge to make it happen.”
